RV shipments up 128 percent in November

RESTON, Va. -- Wholesale deliveries to retailers of all recreation vehicles were recorded at 13,700 units in the November survey of manufacturers, more than double the total from this same month last year, according to information released today by the RVIndustry Association.
On a seasonally adjusted annual rate basis, this month's total represented shipments of more than 225,000 units, a 4.4 percentimprovement over the previous month.
"Both heightened consumer confidence and improved credit markets are seen as largely responsible for this month's gains in RV shipments, said Bill Baker, senior director of communications. "Most economists now describe the U.S. economy as having bottomed out with improvements ahead for a wide cross-section of the economy. RVs should continue to benefit from these broader economic gains with wholesale shipments building momentum as 2010 progresses."
A total of 13,700 RVs were shipped from manufacturers to dealers last month, an increase of 128.3 percent over the 6,000 shipments reported in November 2008. For the year, 151,700 RVs have been shipped to dealers, a 34.4 percent decline from the 231,400 units shipped during the first 11 months of last year.
