SkyMed has experienced many heartfelt stories through the years and now another is added to that legendary list. If not for Claudia Vadillo, Royal Resorts, the Shriners Mexican Hospital and SkyMed, would a young boy have lost his legs?

Nine year old Cristian Canché Ake was struck by a truck in Cancun, Mexico on Saturday July 11th. His mother, Mariana Ake, was completely distraught after his admittance to the public health hospital in Cancun.

Why?

Two weeks later, because of the seriousness of the injury, infection had set in and the Cancun Social Security Hospital medical administration's solution was to amputate both of Cristian's legs.

The local medical team determined that an emergency air evacuation flight to an excellent Mexico City hospital could save Cristian's legs. Time was of the essence. Claudia Vadillo saw the story of the accident on local television and immediately put together a plan to try and save the young boy from the trauma that awaited him. Her employer, Pablo Simón, Director of Cancun Tips Magazine and his family are founders of Shriners Mexican Hospital.

Mr Simón called the hospital in Mexico City and expedited access because Cristian's crisis included infection in his blood, bacteria in his legs and head and stomach trauma.

Claudia Vadillo, a former employee of Royal Resorts and now working with Cancun Tips Magazine, through Royal Resorts contacted our Jim Edwards immediately to see what help SkyMed could provide. Mrs. Ake was a mother with no where to turn. Claudia knew of the Royal Resorts credo in helping within their community.

She said, "There is a spirit of Royal Resorts, their ethic to help outside of their family. That family is not only within Royal Resorts employees and their families. Royals Resorts stands out above and beyond all companies in Cancun, this is all about the big father, our great teacher - Richard Sutton." Mr. Sutton is the founder of Royal Resorts.

Royal Resorts leaders Richard Corso and Richard Sutton personally guaranteed funds to pay for the flight and Jim Edwards was burning international telephone lines to obtain the most price effective flight bearing in mind the in flight care of young Cristian. The public transit that struck Cristian promised to reimburse the cost of the flight.

After three hours Jim succeeded, he had engaged the services of Jet Rescue International to fly Cristian to an awaiting medical team; the flight took place Sunday afternoon.

Claudia Vadillo formerly of Royal Resorts e-mailed everyone she could Sunday evening with the good news: Cristian had arrived at the Shriner's Hospital in Mexico City; he was absolutely happy and crying, saying that "he feels safe now."

Claudia went on to say, "It was not easy to take Cristian out of the Social Security Hospital. SkyMed and Jet Rescue were so helpful; it was good some Shriners were there with us to help.

Thanks everybody, we (did) really change a kid's entire life; he is in good hands now. All my blessings for all the angels that came into my life and make the way easier for something I thought was out of my hands!"

Mr. Corso followed up with the following, "Thank you very much for the help that SkyMed and your staff provided. We appreciate your help, please tell Jim (Edwards) THANK YOU VERY MUCH."

And Jim Edwards response: "Thank God there are still people like Mr. Corso and Mr. Richard Sutton, Royal Resorts founder, left in this world to show the compassion and help for people that do not have a chance in life's darkest moments, like Cristian and his mother."
